Skylar Oberholtzer

Carpenter
  • Skylar Oberholtzer

Woodworking and building runs in Skyler’s family—from his father and uncles to his grandfather, great grandfather, and so on all the way back to the 18th century (according to family genealogy). As if the family legacy of working with wood wasn’t enough, Skyler’s last name, Oberholtzer, means “keeper of the woods” in German. He can't help but believe he was destined for this field of work.

Sklyer brings over 20 years of construction and carpentry experience to Green Hammer. Raised in Washington and Montana, he was introduced to the family business early on. At age 12, he started going to construction job sites, where he witnessed his dad’s incredible, high-end finish carpentry skills. Then, as soon as he graduated high school, he dove into full-time construction work.

After working on more traditional construction projects for years, he has enjoyed learning about and working on zero energy buildings and the cutting-edge processes and technologies Green Hammer employs. He says he appreciates working for a company where employees feel included and respected, and where the design and administrative teams communicate well with the field staff. Sklyer has been impressed that Green Hammer’s more experienced carpenters generously lend their time and knowledge to newer team members. He pays this forward by coaching less experienced carpenters.

When Skyler’s not working, he spends time with his wife and family, as well as working on his personal building and wood sculpting projects. We feel lucky to have this “keeper of the woods” on our team.
