With more than four decades of experience working in the building trades, Randall brings the know-how and creative problem-solving skills to get just about any job done. He joined our team in 2021 after moving to Oregon from Texas, where he worked as a plumber for most of his career.
Soon after moving to Portland, Randall was hired as a temporary employee and was soon promoted to a full-time carpenter. He remembers watching a TV news segment around that time about New Day Preschool, one of our more innovative renovation projects. "It completely blew my mind," he says. The segment highlighted things like flooring made of flaxseed and a heating and ventilation system that provided fresh, filtered air to classrooms at all times. "I was so excited to be working for that company."
Randall's experience and enthusiasm for learning new things makes him a wonderful addition to the team. He says the feeling is mutual: He enjoys working alongside a skilled and hard-working crew, and has greatly benefited from the mentorship offered by some of his co-workers. "I didn't realize how much I didn't know before joining Green Hammer," he says. "It's been very rewarding to be part of a design build firm that has high standards for craftsmanship and environmental responsibility," he says.
As someone who loves spending time outdoors, he says it "makes so much sense" to use low-toxic materials, minimize water and energy use, and take all the necessary steps to ensure systems are properly installed. When he's not working, Randal enjoys exploring Oregon, cooking, and spending time outdoors camping and fishing.
