A classical pianist by training, Edward is a highly skilled carpenter who enjoys woodworking as much as he loves problem solving. The same precision and dexterity Edward applies to piano playing flows into his work as a carpenter. “I like taking a designer’s drawings and trying to figure out how to make them into reality,” he says. His career as a residential carpenter dates back to 2004 when he first moved to Portland from the Chicago area. He worked for a variety of area builders, and even ran his own company, before joining Green Hammer.
“One of the big reasons I was attracted to Green Hammer was the opportunity to do all aspects of a job – from pouring the foundation to framing to finish work. It’s very satisfying,” he says.
As someone who has always loved math and science, he appreciates having to use analytical skills every day. He enjoys being challenged to learn about leading-edge technologies and energy efficient building systems. “I appreciate Green Hammer architects for integrating energy efficiency into a building design from the very beginning. It’s not an afterthought.”
Throughout his life, Edward has toured with numerous bands, including his own. When he is not playing classical or Jazz piano, he is likely bird watching or surveying peregrine falcons with his girlfriend, an avid rock climber and his favorite hiking partner.
