Portland Business Tribune reporter, Joseph Gallivan, dives into the Living Building Challenge in a recent feature article about the LBC-certified tasting room at Cowhorn Vineyard & Garden. This biodynamic winery in Southern Oregon, owned by Bill and Barbara Steele, made history this spring when it became the first winery in the world to complete and certify a Living Building.
"They're not just a biodynamic winery but they're putting their money where their mouth is," said Green Hammer Director of Design, Erica Dunn.
In order to achieve the Living Building Challenge, the tasting room at Cowhorn Vineyard & Garden had to prove for 12 months that it produced all of its own energy with onsite renewable energy, met all of its own water needs onsite, and met a number of other requirements related to building materials, waste reduction, local sourcing, beauty and equity.
